arco iris.

It’s officially rainy season. If it hasn’t rained by the end of lunch you know it’s a weird day. So naturally when we walk to get a snack or walk kids home after classes, it’s raining. But every once in a while, the sun will peak out and we will get to see a full rainbow over the mountains. Once we even saw a complete double rainbow.

So since it was sunny yesterday and we wouldn’t freeze,
We went swimming. I was at one of our swimming holes with the older girls and cousin Yeri. (He is the nephew of one of the house parents and we get to hang out with him a lot).
While splashing people with water, we spotted a rainbow among the droplets that were flying through the air. Amazed, all the kids started splashing water to see rainbows.

And then I thought,
what makes the rainbow come back every-time they splash the water, or if you do the same thing with a hose. So then I contemplated some more.

I always thought that a rainbow was something God put in the sky after it rained (and it was more visible if the sun was out and reflecting off of it) and it had some kind of timer on it, and when the timer ran out, it would disappear. And I thought it was just something referring to never flooding the earth again. Which it does, but it’s so much more.

And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
Genesis 9:12-16

But then I thought of a movie I saw, where they took glass to reflect the light to create rainbows all over the room.
And then it hit me.

What if rainbows never leave. What if they are always there, always present. It just takes something like rain, water or glass to see it, cause we are too weak to see it on our own.

It’s not just a symbol that appears, God put it in the sky and left it there. When He sees it, He remembers His promise as well. His promise and goodness are for EVERYONE, not just Abraham, not just Christians, it’s a promise to all generations. It’s constantly there, showing us that He is faithful, as well as reminding us of His goodness and that we can trust Him.

The reason we have rainbows is because they are a symbol of God’s faithfulness and that He keeps His promises.

If God is ever present, and the symbol of His faithfulness is always present, then He must be forever faithful.

And how can I not trust a God like that.
When wherever I go, there is a symbol of His faithfulness reminding me to trust Him with all that I am, and cry out to Him.

Trusting God is always a thing that I am learning and that God is teaching me. Siempre. At this time in my life, it has to do with my future, because I am still unsure about next year. I was pretty sure that I was going to start college next fall, but I've fallen in love with these people, the culture and country, and working with kids, so now I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing.
Anyways.
These are pictures from different things that have happened in the past couple weeks. Like my mom coming.

classes.

So I’m not sure how many people are aware that we have classes on the property three days a week.
There’s a rotation of many different classes like computer, English, music, P.E., reading/literature class, and Bible, with three different levels for each.
Before we started this program I was helping with the English class at the school, but since we moved it to the property, I’m still helping with it.

We recently got two new students in one of the levels. The following day the other teacher couldn’t be there so I was in charge of the class, which happens every once in a while. It’s fun to do but also interesting cause of my Spanish. Well, the next day at the end of class the new girl was talking to me, cause she’s super friendly and cute, and she asked me if I spoke English. Ummm… WHAT?! Like have you heard my Spanish? So that was pretty cool that my Spanish sounded pretty legit to her. But I’m also kind of confused cause I’m white. Not really sure. But there is also some white Hondurans in her village, so that might be it. So, that’s a pretty big highlight.

After classes I walk the girls home with one of the other volunteers, because some of the parents are concerned about the boys bothering them. Which is super fun for me cause I get to hang out with the girls for a good like 15 or 20 minutes more! The fifth grade girls are so fun, with their cute outfits and hair done, neat notebooks, dancing and singing, and fun games.
Maholi says I’m her best friend. She brought me a super cute bracelet on Monday that matches the one that she has, and she always walks with me. It’s fun to get to walk with her and hear about her life.

Since actually the classes ended a week ago, this is a super late post. We are now having “vacation” classes, which are not at long and more fun, because the school year has ended. A couple days ago we were able to take the “star students” on a trip to town for a reward. Which was a HUGE thing because these are mountain kids that have probably only been off the mountain once or twice in their lives, if that. The kids that went either had the highest grade average of the class, best attendance or got the reading award. We took 14 kids and had at least one kid from each of the four villages that our students come from.

The day comprised of eating at KFC and playing in the play-place. Later we were able to take them to the mall, and getting to do the trampoline where you have a harness and get to jump super high, and the day ended with icecream before heading back up.

There were many first’s that day. Using of a soda fountain, trash-cans that have the flap you push to put the trash in, escalator riding and mastering the part where you get on and off, as well as jumping on a trampoline and walking through shoes stores and the home section of Carrion (the most glorious store ever) and seeing all the Christmas decorations.

grasshoppers

“He sits enthroned above the circle of  the earth, and it’s people are like grasshoppers.” Isaiah 40:22

Sometimes I’m in awe.

God isn’t just in heaven.
He’s outside of time and space, looking down on us like grasshoppers.
He is so much bigger and greater than us and I often forget that.

That He is in control and sovereign over everything.
And how can I not believe that when I realize how big he is. Cause if I believe he is that big and great, he must be sovereign.

So then I started contemplating things.

In that verse, it says we are like grasshoppers to Him. We are so insignificant.
So why does He care for us, why does He take care and provide for us.
Looking at the past year of my life, there have been many big things that happened.
Some great while some sucked and were the worse months of my life (ACL surgery and not being able to play soccer).
Yet in the midst of all of that, He was faithful, and continued to seek after me when I was unfaithful to him, and he provided for me.

WHY?
Why would the creator of the universe, the God so big that time cannot hold him, why would he want to have a relationship with us, to talk to us, and want us to know him?
Because He loves us.

Realizing the greatness of God, I am now able to put His love in perspective.
