I have been given the amazing opportunity to serve and work at Give Hope to Kids, this coming year. Give Hope to Kids is a children's home in Honduras, that is becoming self-sustaining. They not only support orphans in family settings, but also the community and disciple the neighboring children.
A little over a year ago I read a book called "Kisses from Katie", which is about a girl who moves to Uganda after high school to teach in a school, and ended up staying there. She currently has adopted 14 girls and has a ministry that serves the people of Uganda. Throughout the book, God continued to pull at my heart and give me a passion for the father-less. Little did I know how much He had in store for me. He continued to grow that passion more and more through the years. Last year I was able to go with a group to Mexico to volunteer at a Children's Home, and serve the community in many different ways. One night at an outreach I completely broke down because of the poverty that people lived in. That night I knew this was something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
As I started thinking about college, I realized I didn't want to go at all. I started searching big mission organizations for internships or long-term mission trips. I was having trouble finding what I was looking for and was getting discouraged when Give Hope to Kids was suggested by a family friend. This past December I was able to visit for a week by myself and serve at that children's home.
I will be leaving June 30th for one year, to serve at Give Hope to Kids. I am looking for people who will faithfully support me in prayer for the next fifteen months. I'm also raising money for living and travel costs, approximately $5,000 for the year. You can donate online (tax deductible gifts), or a check can be made out to me to cover my flight expenses (not tax deductible).
Current prayer requests:
- Healing and recovery from ACL surgery
- Prepared heart for the trip and peace
- God's provision
